The ground beneath our feet

Welcome 2018 Year of the Dog.

They say the average person walks 3000-5000 steps a day… according to my calculation I have walked, so far 16 million and 425000 steps in my course. Impressive number!!  I think about these graceful feet that are our pillar, taking us to different places around the world, travelling like the intrinsic pathways of the 4 elements, fire earth, water and air.  There is much to feel and to be nourish through our feet, the water beneath our soles replenishing, softening the skin.  The sun healing our wounds, blazing the very path we walk on and the rocks pressing vital points of our body.  The air is a time of celebration!  Kick up one’s heels and resting.  It is important to consider our feet and give the tender loving care to stay healthy.

Here are some tips to think about when caring for our feet;

  1. Where comfortable shoes, those heels are fine for the office, but you may want to try some flats after work.

Ed. Gravbianowski. (2018) Your feet are probably the last part of your body you think about — until they start hurting. They’re too important to overlook, though: With some 26 bones and a complex framework of muscles, tendons and ligaments, your feet absorb the impact of your full body weight with every step, keeping you balanced and upright in the process.

  1. Continue to walk, it helps exercise your foot muscle and benefits overall vitality.
  2. Wash your feet. When you don’t wash your feet, you’re letting that stuff accumulate from day to day. That leads to unpleasant foot odour — and eventually to fungal infections and other skin problems.
  3. Think about walking barefoot.

Healthy wild and free. (2018). Our cavemen ancestors walked on sand, grass, wood and pebbles. Because we wear shoes all the time we miss out on the sensory experiences involved in that process. Our feet when stimulated transmit that information to other areas of the body. There are multiple pressure points and nerve endings on the bottom of our feet that go unstimulated because of shoes. When we remove shoes, we open our sensory nervous system to explore more.

When you walk barefoot you must be more alert, aware and present in this moment because you must watch where you’re walking. It takes walking subconsciously and makes it conscious again which makes you conscious and present which is a valuable gift. Walking barefoot also stimulates the nerves and pressure points on the bottom of the foot which can help to bring chi energy (life force, prana, different cultures have different names for this) to different areas in the body associated with those pressure points on the bottom of your foot. We can’t always walk barefoot due to modern society or weather conditions, so another alternative to help flow our body in homeostasis, have a reflexology massage to help vitality and some numerous conditions including stress.

Care for your feet today and walk another mile tomorrow.

Be Happy and free,

Anna
