One of my favorite holidays is Halloween, the children as well as adults get to dress up in costume and go trick or treating, they get to decorate the home and eat their favorite candies. What I like most is throwing a costume party and feel into the persona you wish to be for a moment, recreating your favorite characters, which in my case would be the Queen or Scarlet Ohara. A playful time, to express the different facades I wish to explore!! On another note, Halloween is synonymous with massive consumption of sugar and much food coloring. But it can be a great time of year to begin practicing balance and mindfulness when it comes to eating, since it’s the official kick-off of the holiday season. I would like to share a few tips that can help ease the body in a more pleasant way and bring a conscientious choice to a healthier path.
1-Indulge- it is alright.
It is possible to be festive without falling off the wagon! I don’t advocate the eat-tonight-starve-tomorrow mentality anyway — if you really want a treat, enjoy a small portion of the exact thing you’re craving.
Otherwise you’re bound to eat twice as much of whatever else is at hand, and though the substitute may technically be “healthier,” you’ll still feel unsatisfied, not to mention miserable. If you are the social host, though, that means you are in control. Remember, there are healthier ways to make delicious party foods
2- Practice portion control
After trick or treating sort the candy out and set boundaries on an amount of candy to be eaten in the next week. Choose fun side treats that are low in fat and sugar(calorie).
3- Dark is delicious
Dark chocolate — that is, anything with 70% or more cocoa content — can be an acquired taste for those who’ve known nothing but milk chocolate with added sugar all their lives. Once you’ve experienced the smooth richness just one ounce of decadent dark chocolate provides, with its anti-oxidant and cholesterol-lowering benefits to boot, you’ll be hooked. Just one small piece of a premium brand can satisfy your sweet tooth and elevate your mood a whole lot sooner, with a lot less damaging fat and additives.
4- Get organic candy instead of conventional
Eating organic has a higher value nutrient, in the long run it helps preserve our environment by enriching our soil. I won’t go into details which are rather explicit, but the importance is to know there is a difference and to be aware what we really are eating. The organic package ingredients are clean ingredients that you can understand vs Non-organic has unnatural coloring and preservatives that are essentially chemicals that you are putting into the body, that creates adverse effects to calmness, not to mention highly addictive.

Despite unhealthy distraction and social holiday’s often stand in the way of clean eating, it is vital to practice moderation, consistency and leniency to reach a healthy path. Overall educating our young generation, including our children as early as possible, how favorable food needs to take precedence in this fast pace culture and how detrimental to the physical body it can be when we eat the wrong foods.
