Questions and Answers about vitamin safety

Does a strong odour mean spoilage, and if so can vitamins be harmful?  Strong odours don’t necessarily signify spoilage, but it is possible (If you have been keeping your vitamins in sunlight and warmth it is more than possible, it’s probable.)  But even if your vitamins have spoiled, they won’t harm you.  The worst that can happen is that they lose their effectiveness/potency.

If I take a multiple vitamin and additional folic acid, am I in danger?  A common daily dosage is 400 to 800mcg, and chances are you are not even getting that.  Even if you are getting more, there is no reason to worry.  Folic acid is a Vit B, and like all vit B, it is water soluble and not stored in the body unlike vit A and E.

I‘ve heard that dolomite is a good for healing broken bones.  I’m taking multivitamin capsule twice daily already, but can I also take dolomite?

Dolomite is an excellent source of calcium and magnesium, and your multivitamin (even with mineral) is not only safe but recommended.  Just make sure you are getting the proper calcium-magnesium balance (twice as much calcium as magnesium). And for better results monitor how you feel in the next couple of weeks, to reassure your assimilation and absorption of calcium is intact.

What vitamins can I overdose on?  There are only two vitamins where toxicity should be a concern- synthetic vitamin and synthetic vit D.  My recommendation regarding these vitamins is common sense.  If you are taking large doses of vit A and D, take them for 5 days and stop for two, or take them every other day so that they don’t build up in your body.

I have bad breath is there any vitamins I can take?  I would start by taking a vit B complex and a probiotic/prebiotic.    When your body is low on beneficial bacteria, it can cause problems such as gas, bloating, bad breath, constipation, diarrhea, intestinal toxicity, and poor absorption of nutrients.  Taking probiotics can also help people that are under stress by helping them build important B vitamins.
